With the MLB trade deadline just a few days away, trade discussions are beginning to pick up steam. Both the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox have been viewed as teams to watch.
At this point in the year, the Dodgers once again look the part of a World Series contender. They hold a 62-45 record and are in first place in the National League West division race. It seems likely that they will be a buyer trying to add talent.
On the other hand, the Red Sox are not as clear of a contender. They are 57-51 and are in third place in the American League East division race. Currently, Boston is 6.5 games back in the division.
Could the two teams potentially become trade partners ahead of the deadline? That is something that has now been suggested.
Brandon Glick of PFSN has named Los Angeles as one of the "best fits" for Red Sox relief pitcher and closer Aroldis Chapman.
Chapman has been pitching at an extremely high level so far this season. He would be a big-time get for the Dodgers to improve their bullpen even more.
Throughout the course of the 2025 campaign thus far with Boston, Chapman has appeared in 45 games. He has compiled a 3-2 record to go along with a 1.30 ERA, a 0.82 WHIP, a 4.7 K/BB ratio, 18 saves, four holds, and two blown saves.
At 37 years old, Chapman will be a top target for any team looking to upgrade its bullpen. His contract status also makes him interesting, as he will be a half-year rental. That could drive his cost down to a point where teams are willing to pay to get him.
Expect to hear more rumors about Chapman ahead of the trade deadline. Keep an eye on Los Angeles as a potential destination for him.
