Since stepping into the head coach role, Michael Carrick has regularly been seen at academy matches, keeping a close eye on the young talent coming through the ranks.
Carrick’s focus on youth development isn’t new. He and his coaching team have already started blending younger players into first-team training sessions at Carrington.
The club is currently preparing for their weekend fixture against Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Two youngsters spotted training with Manchester United first team
Manchester United’s latest training session featured several academy players joining the senior squad at Carrington, as shown during a segment aired live on MUTV.
Among those involved was 15-year-old JJ Gabriel, who had already mentioned his call-up to first-team training on social media earlier in the week. He won’t be eligible to play for United until next season due to age restrictions.
The Fletcher twins, sons of technical director Darren Fletcher, are already familiar faces around the first team setup. Both have appeared in matchday squads this season, with Jack making his debut under Ruben Amorim.
Yuel Helafu is another notable inclusion. The 17-year-old right-back has been one of the standout performers across the under-18 and under-21 levels this campaign and is currently part of Australia’s Under-18s squad for an international tournament in Portugal.
Jack Moorhouse features in training
Jack Moorhouse spent the first half of the season on loan from Manchester United before being recalled on deadline day.
United felt he wasn’t getting enough minutes at Leyton Orient and brought him back, believing his development would be better served at Carrington.
He’ll now return to action with the under-21s, but his early involvement with the first team is also worth noting. Moorhouse was included on the bench for last February’s match against Tottenham.
