This is the last mid-winter break update
Every one of Bayern Munich’s youth teams is still in their winter break as the league waits for warmer weather that the stadiums of each respective youth team can handle. Not only is the break nearing its’ end, however, the teams are not lying around. Another weekly round of fixtures was held, with a mixture of tournaments and friendlies being held. You can see more about each fixture here and here. But this is the recap of these fixtures and the date of the return of each team:
Bayern II (U-23s) 0-0 SGV Freiberg (friendly)
Bayern lineup:
First half: Bärtl – Ofli, Deziel Jr., Heindl, Manuba – Schmitz, Cardozo, Richter – Degraf, Heinz, Schuhbauer.
Second half: Bärtl – Yanda, Puljić, Dettoni, Dalpiaz – Schmitz (60. Rüger), Cardozo (60. Sadat), Deziel Jr – Schuhbauer, Degraf, Darboe.
Season re-start: February 20
Bayern’s U-23s hosted Regionalliga Südwest side SGV Freiberg for a friendly to regain match fitness and emerged with a dull 0-0 draw. No highlights were made available. However, there were multiple interesting changes to the squad. The likes of left back Deniz Ofli and midfielder Maycon Cardozo are now fully integrated in the squad after spending the first half of the seasons with the U-19s. Grayson Dettoni played but has since been loaned out. Mudaser Sadat, who was on loan at Austrian 2. division side SKU Amstetten, barely played and has returned to Bayern II.
Most shockingly of all, there was a demotion to the U-19s in Guido Della Rovere. This rarely happens at Bayern. This will be expanded upon in the section below.
There are not too many friendlies to play before Bayern II return with a match against SpVgg Unterhaching on February 20.
Bayern U-19s 1-1 SV Ried, 4-0 TSV Grünwald
Season re-start: February 8
Over the weekend, the U-19s welcomed Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried, who had just signed Bayern talent Nasrawe on loan. Della Rovere scored the only Bayern goal of the game in the 1-1 draw. Then they faced German 6th division side TSV Grünwald during the week and flattened them 4-0, with Della Rovere again, David Santos Daiber, Wisdom Mike and Michaek Matosevic scoring the goals. Lineups were not provided for either game.
Della Rovere lining up for the U-19s is really strange. Such demotions at Bayern are rare and the Italian youngster, who joined from Cremonese in 2024, had been enjoying a fairly strong season for the U-23s. Is this a non-issue and Della Rovere will be back with the U-23s soon? Is he recovering from an injury? Or did something else happen? Only time will tell.
Bayern’s U-19s return in February 8 against Kaiserslautern’s U-19s, looking to succeed in phase 2 of league play and move on to the final phase by winning the group.
Bayern U-17s 7-0 VFL Wolfsburg U-17s
Goals: 1:0 Pucci (8.), 2:0 Danioko (31.), 3:0 Osmani (41.), 4:0 von Taube (50.), 5:0 Babl (53.), 6:0 Burghardt (61.), 7:0 Turbic (79.)
Season re-start: February 7
Taking after the senior team in the best way possible, the U-17s also won by 7 goals against the car manufacturer owned club.
Leonard Haas, U-17 coach, had this to say: “We played a really good game – especially in the first half. We implemented the points we had planned for the different phases of the game very well. We also scored some very nice goals. The second half was also mostly solid; only in the final stages did the game become a bit disjointed due to some stoppages. Overall, it was still a very successful test for us.”
Bayern’s U-17s start a day before the U-19s but with the same goal: Win the group and qualify for phase 3 of the league.
Bayern U-16s 4-1 VFL Wolfsburg U-16s
Goals: 1:0 Isuf Hiseni (4.), 2:0 Daniel Abade (9.), 3:0 Timo Dachgruber (33.), 4-1 Skender Nuraj (69.)
Another Bayern team roasted Wolfsburg. It was a pretty awful January for Die Wölfe against Bayern across several age teams.
U-16 coach Sebastian Dreier had this to say: “We wanted to make a successful start to the new year with our first friendly match, and we achieved that. Currently, we are working intensively as a team on the campus playing principles to create a good foundation for the second half of the season. Last week, our focus was particularly on pressing and the responsibilities of each position. The intensity was already good, but we still need to work on our defensive organization and tackling. The match provided us with many valuable insights, which we will now analyze together.”
