VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — The USD men’s basketball team pushed Summit League-leading NDSU to the brink but ultimately fell to the Bison 89-84 in overtime Sunday.
North Dakota State scored the first 10 points of the game and led by as many as 16 early in the second half. The Yotes then made a major surge in the final 18 minutes of regulation to take the lead before heading to OT.
“I am proud of our guys,” USD head coach Eric Peterson said. “I think they see now that, ‘hey, we can play with St. Thomas. We can play with NDSU.’ We have, plenty of chances to beat those guys. We’re close, so they’re not going to give up. They’re going to keep fighting.”
NDSU shot 55% for the game and went 6-of-7 from the field in the extra period.
“Against the best teams, you got to put two really solid halves together, and we just didn’t do that,” ,” Peterson said. “So unfortunate, we had some chances, missed some shots, missed some free throws. They’re a good team, and the guys that they had on the floor made some clutch shots when they needed them to.”
Jordan Crawford, Uzziah Buntyn and Cameron Fens combined for 74 of USD’s 84 points.
The Yotes visit Kansas City Wednesday.
