Leon Goretzka might stay at Bayern Munich.
According to a report from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka still has not made his mind on whether or not he will leave in the coming days. As it stands, though, Goretzka could be leaning toward staying at Bayern Munich through the end of the season, even as Atlético Madrid is reportedly read to up its offer to Bayern Munich:
Atlético would be willing to pay a maximum of €5m fee for Leon Goretzka. Bayern would save €6-7m on the player’s salary for the rest of the season. Concrete negotiations took place today. Still no final decision by the player, but as things stand, the current tendency is that Goretzka will stay and finish the season with Bayern. In that case, Atlético would still be interested in Goretzka as a free agent in the summer.
Unless something unexpected happens, the tendency is for Goretzka to stay until the end of the season. But should he still leave this window, Bayern are currently not planning to sign a replacement. The club is saving money for the expensive contract extensions (Upamecano, Kane, Laimer) and focused on the summer transfer window (De Cat, Eichhorn remain targets). The plan for the rest of the season would be to replace Goretzka with internal options.
Meanwhile, Kicker journalist George Holzner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) is reporting that Atléti might have given up hope for a move during this window:
Atlético Madrid have almost given up hope that the signing of Leon Goretzka will go through this window. Goretzka feels comfortable at Bayern, appreciates his collaboration with Vincent Kompany and wants to achieve maximum success at the club. As things stand, Goretzka will stay until the end of the season. What happens in the summer is another matter. His contract with Bayern will not be extended.
This saga has had quite a few twists and turns already, so stay tuned…there could be more to come!
