The Philadephia Eagles were destined to make a change at offensive play-caller this season, with the team’s performance in the Wild Card Round loss ultimately resulting in Kevin Patullo’s demotion. However, the search for a new Eagles offensive coordinator doesn’t appear to be going well.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Philadelphia spoke to LSU Tigers offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. about their play-calling vacancy. However, he later informed the team that he’ll remain with Lane Kiffin on LSU’s coaching staff.

Three of the prospective offensive coordinator candidates that Philadelphia has spoken with have now taken other jobs. Mike McDaniel opted to become the Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator, and Bobby Slowik was promoted to become the Miami Dolphins’ play-caller under Jeff Hafley.

The Eagles were also blocked by the Dallas Cowboys from interviewing offensive coordinator Klayton Adams. Because it would have been a lateral move, even with play-calling duties given to Adams, Dallas had the right to deny its rival’s interview request.

Meanwhile, top target Brian Daboll is in the mix to become the next Buffalo Bills head coach. Elsewhere, the Baltimore Ravens are reportedly considering either Kliff Kingsbury or Joe Brady to serve as the offensive coordinator on Jesse Minter’s staff.

Russini also reported Monday that Philadelphia is set to interview Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson. The 37-year-old has spent the past three seasons working with C.J. Stroud and previously spent a season on the Minnesota Vikings staff as an assistant quarterbacks coach. Notably, Johnson was an offensive quality control coach for the Indianapolis Colts when Nick Sirianni worked there.

As of now, Daboll, Johnson, Matt Nagy, Jim Bob Cooter, Mike Kafka and Josh Grizzard are available options who have met or will meet with the Eagles. However, it is very possible the search expands further this week, as assistants with the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are now able to be interviewed.
