Former Patriots lineman Kevin Johnson died of stab wounds, according to the Associated Press.
Kevin Johnson, a former Patriots lineman, has been killed at a Los Angeles homeless encampment, according to the Associated Press.
The AP reports Johnson, 55, was found unconscious and died from “blunt head trauma and stab wounds.” The Los Angeles County medical examiner has reportedly ruled his death a homicide.
“Unfortunately it appears he was homeless,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve De Jong told Newsweek Sports. “It looks like he was probably living there.”
A defensive tackle, Johnson was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 1993 NFL Draft, but was cut during training camp that summer. His draft peers in New England included Drew Bledsoe (No. 1 overall), Chris Slade (second round) and Troy Brown (eighth round).
After being released by the Patriots, Johnson had stints with the Vikings and Raiders before finding a foothold with Philadelphia in 1995.
Johnson spent two years with the Eagles, appearing in 23 games and recording seven sacks and 43 tackles. He went back to the Raiders in 1997, playing in 15 games and registering 11 tackles, then won an ArenaBowl Championship with the Orlando Predators in 1998.
