The city derby between St Pauli and SV Hamburg in the Bundesliga on Friday ended in a goalless draw as none of the teams will be happy with the result.
Hamburg had the best chance of the match when Luka Vuskovic won a header from a corner in the 54th, but his effort went straight to goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.
St Pauli got close to a breakthrough in the 81st after Hamburg failed to completely clear the ball and it fell to Arkadiusz Pyrka. But his long-distance shot was saved by keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes.
"We had out chances, we played good defence, but we need to be sharper in the attack. Altogether one point away here it's ok but we need to win these games," Vuskovic told broadcaster Sky.
Both teams are fighting against relegation. Ahead of the weekend matches, Hamburg are 13th, five points ahead of St Pauli, who are the first team in the drop zone in 16th.
Asked whether Hamburg have what it takes to stay in the Bundesliga, Vuskovic said: "Totally. We're a good team, we have a good coach, good staff. (We have) Everything we need to stay in this league."
St Pauli coach Alexander Blessin was very critical of his team's performance.
"We did too little. We were very inactive, we were too slow. That's why we have to be happy with the point today," he said.
Regarding the fight against relegation, he added: "It will be difficult. We need to start collecting points."
In August, Hamburg and St Pauli staged the first Hamburg derby in the Bundesliga in 14 years after both teams had stints in the second division. St Pauli won 2-0.
