To quote Overkill: Thanx for Nothin!
I guess Jake Paul can finally take that SmartCage out of his gym.
That’s because “El Gallo” is no longer under contract with Professional Fighters League (PFL) after three years of false starts and empty promises. Paul, 29, was probably never going to fight in the first place and simply “signed” to generate buzz for the self-proclaimed co-leader of mixed martial arts (MMA).
Uncrowned first reported the change on Wednesday.
PFL has been undergoing leadership changes behind the scenes with former CEO Peter Murray and co-founder Donn Davis recently packing their bags. The future also looks grim for ex-UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou, who signed to much fanfare in early 2023 only t0 have one fight in three years.
Ngannou’s deal is expected to expire in 2026.
Paul continues to make noise on the professional boxing circuit and is currently recovering from his brutal knockout loss to Anthony Joshua last Dec. on Netflix. No word yet on when or if “El Gallo” will eventually return to the ring but his broken jaw will likely keep him sidelined for at least six months.
PFL returns to action with “Road to Dubai” on Feb. 7.
