While reports have suggested the Miami Heat have interest in making a trade for Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, a new rumor claims they won’t do it even if the deal didn’t cost them as much as expected.
With Trae Young off the trade block after the Atlanta Hawks sent him to the Washington Wizards earlier this month, the biggest name up for grabs at the moment is Morant. Especially with a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade now looking unlikely.
A few years ago, a trade for the two-time All-Star would have netted a huge return. However, due to off-court drama, a bunch of injuries, and a regression in his play over the last three years, Morant’s trade value has dropped significantly. Nevertheless, he is still viewed as a player with superstar potential following a change of scenery.
That is why recent rumors suggested the MIA Heat have had internal conversations about a trade for the talented yet difficult guard. The word is that some inside the organization believe their infrastructure could bring about a return to elite status for Morant.
MIA Heat’s interest in a Ja Morant trade continues to diminish
However, in recent days, reports have suggested Miami’s interest may not be as strong as some believe. On Monday, NBA insider Marc Stein added to that speculation with a surprising update to the trade rumors.
“One well-placed league source insisted to me that the Heat should be scratched as a Morant suitor — even if the terms are favorable — if such a move jeopardizes a future trade run at Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Stein reports.
“… Word is that Miami believes it will be firmly in the mix as a legit trade destination for Antetokounmpo if he actually becomes available at season’s end — at last — as various rival teams project,” he added.
The stance is surprising considering the Greek superstar’s opinion on leaving Milwaukee has not changed despite a very disappointing 2025-26 for the Bucks. Furthermore, a starting five featuring Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, Norman Powell, and Ja Morant could be a favorite in the East during the spring.
