A Chicago Cubs trade proposal sends top pitching prospects to the Arizona Diamondbacks for National League RBI leader Eugenio Suarez.

The Chicago Cubs need a jolt of energy after losing a near five-game lead atop the National League Central. While the team has been open about their desire to acquire another starting pitcher at the deadline, Chicago might as well go all-in and trade for the biggest bat – Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez.
The Cubs will not be alone attempting to make a deal for Suarez, but Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report believes they are the second-best trade destination for the slugger.
Rymer starts by pointing out the struggles of Chicago’s third baseman, who possesses a .555 OPS and only two home runs, and the lack of consistency from starter Matt Shaw. The Cubs' interest in Suarez also makes Rymer believe the team’s patience with Shaw is thin, especially in a win-now season.
Another reason, and probably the most important, for the Cubs to have interest in Suarez is his success against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his two seasons with the Diamondbacks, Suarez has a .991 OPS and five homers against the reigning World Series champions.
The big question is not whether the Cubs should acquire, those facts are clear, but what it will cost to bring the current NL leader in RBIs to the northside of Chicago.
Rymer’s trade proposal includes the Cubs sending right-handed pitching prospects RHP Jaxon Wiggins (Cubs No. 4) and Will Sanders (Cubs No. 10) to Arizona in exchange for Suarez.
While the price may be steep, especially for rental, Suarez would solidify a Cubs offense scoring the second-most runs in baseball and give the Diamondbacks controllable arms to build around in the future.
The one uncertainty with Rymer’s proposition is the fact that Chicago may value adding another viable arm to their starting rotation in a thin market instead of a bat they do not technically need.
