Ever since INEOS bought a minority share in Manchester United, there have been reports that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been looking to sell OGC Nice, which he bought back in 2019.
However, the club remains on the market, without a taker. Bloomberg reported on Thursday that INEOS had reduced their asking price for the Ligue 1 club significantly. The initial asking price was set at €200m.
The club, however, has lost value in recent months. There was firstly the TV rights fiasco, with DAZN pulling out of their five-year deal to broadcast the top-flight after just one season, last summer, which gave rise to the league-run broadcaster Ligue 1 Plus. Consequently, income from broadcasting rights has significantly reduced.
Nice have also endured a difficult campaign. Having finished fourth last season, the club are currently, by their own admission, mired in a relegation battle. L’Équipe du Soir report that, in this context, INEOS’ asking price for Les Aiglons now sits at just €50m.
