Former Tennessee starting lineman transfers to 2026 SEC opponent

Former Tennessee offensive lineman transfers to a 2026 SEC opponent.

Tennessee junior left tackle Lance Heard transferred from the Vols following the 2025 season.

"After a lot of thought and prayer, I've decided to enter the transfer portal with eligibility remaining, to explore new opportunities and continue developing as a player and as a person," Heard announced.

Heard committed to Kentucky after entering the NCAA transfer portal. Tennessee will host the Wildcats on Nov. 7 at Neyland Stadium.

The 6-foot-6, 330-pound junior offensive lineman appeared in 13 games for Tennessee in 2025 and started at left tackle.

Heard started in all 10 games he appeared in during his first season with Vols in 2024. He underwent a minor knee procedure ahead of the 2024 season. After returning in Sept. 2024, Heard also dealt with an ankle sprain.

He transferred to Tennessee from LSU. Heard played in 12 games as a freshman in 2023 for the Tigers.

The NCAA transfer portal will close Friday after opening on Jan. 2.
