Toby Collyer: United take surprise call on midfielder’s future

Ruben Amorim would love for INEOS to sign a midfielder this January.

The current options at his disposal are not particularly inspiring. Casemiro’s waning influence is a concern, while Manuel Ugarte seems to be on his way to Turkiye.

Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, and Mason Mount are all injured, while academy wonderkid Jack Fletcher has struggled to impose himself during his recent cameos.

The Manchester United head coach was given an unexpected boost when the loan spell of Toby Collyer with West Bromwich Albion was cut short due to an injury.

Toby Collyer back at United

The 22-year-old earned praise from West Brom boss Ryan Mason but only started three games in the Championship due to two separate injury issues. He did register an assist.

There were talks that he could potentially be reintegrated into the first team squad given how thin Amorim’s squad is currently.

While it would have taken time, but the Carrington graduate did impress the head coach and his senior teammates last season, and was even above Casemiro at one point.

However, The Sun have now revealed that will not be the case, as the Red Devils are still planning to send him out on loan for the second half of the season.

United take Toby Collyer decision

“MANCHESTER UNITED are hoping to send Toby Collyer back out on loan in January – despite the current selection crisis.

“United cancelled Collyer’s season-long West Brom loan after the midfielder picked up a calf injury in November.

“However, despite Ruben Amorim‘s lack of squad depth – with eight players unavailable – United are still planning to secure a loan move for Collyer if he returns to fitness this month.”

Hopefully, even without a permanent loans manager, United can find Toby Collyer another loan in the Championship. And the midfielder also needs to stay injury-free to truly leave a mark.

Hopefully, plan doesn’t backfire

As for Amorim, he will be hoping United’s co-owners can bring someone with quality in during the January window to ease his worries.

The Peoples Person recently relayed that the club are exploring the possibility of signing long-term target Carlos Baleba in the winter.
