Raiders’ star offensive lineman won’t move on in process
Raiders’ legendary offensive lineman Steve Wisniewski may someday get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but it won’t be anytime soon.
The Hall of Fame announced the 15 modern-day finalists Tuesday morning and Wisniewski did not make the cut. He was named as one of the 26 modern-day semifinalists in November.
This was Wisniewski’s final year of eligibility as a modern-day candidate. Now, he will head to the senior committee candidates and that can be a long wait because of the glut of candidates and how few people are elected from that group each year. Fellow Raiders’ legends, quarterback Jim Plunkett and cornerback Lester Hayes have been stuck in that process for years.
Wisniewski was also a semifinalist last year and in 2014. The guard was an eight time Pro Bowl selection and a seven time first or second team All-Pro choice and a member of the 1990’s all-decade team. Wisniewski, 58, played his entire career for the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders, spanning 1989-2001.
Meanwhile, tight end Jason Witten is a finalist. He finished his career with the Raiders in 2020.
