The Sacramento Kings have been active this offseason as they try to upgrade their roster to chase a playoff spot next season.

Of course, the Kings’ core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Keegan Murray are all expected to be back next season, though DeRozan and Malik Monk have been mentioned in trade rumors this summer.

One key area the Kings were struggling with the point guard position after they traded De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs last season, but that is no longer the case after they landed Dennis Schroder in free agency via a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons.

Sacramento also added Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the NBA draft and they acquired Dario Saric from the Denver Nuggets for Jonas Valanciunas.

On Monday, the Kings made another key decision regarding their final open roster spot as they came to terms with a three-point sharpshooter.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Kings are signing Doug McDermott to a one-year, $3.6 million contract.

Of course, McDermott played for the Kings last season, his first with the franchise, and he played a key role off the bench for them as he was arguably their best three-point shooter.

Last season, the 33-year-old forward averaged 3.5 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game while shooting 42.7% from the field and 43.6% from three in 42 games.

McDermott only averaged 8.1 minutes per game last season but he proved to be a key spark off the bench for the Kings due to his outside shooting and he should see a similar role next season.

By making this move, the Kings have now filled their final open roster spot meaning that if they want to make any other moves, possibly for a point guard, they will have to cut one of their players to make room.
