The Sacramento Kings have made the playoffs just once since the start of the 2006-07 season and they are looking to return next season as they have made some additions to their roster this offseason.

So far this summer, the Kings have added two young players in Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the 2025 NBA Draft to upgrade their depth.

They also landed Dennis Schroder in free agency in a sign-and-trade deal with the Detroit Pistons and it appears as though Schroder will be their starting point guard next season.

Of course, the Kings struggled at the point guard position in the second half of last season after trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline.

While adding Schroder does upgrade the Kings’ point guard situation, they still lack true depth at the position.

Because of this, the Kings could look to add another veteran point guard this offseason and according to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Russell Westbrook and Ben Simmons have both been linked to Sacramento.

“We are still anticipating the Kings to be bringing in another veteran guard,” Fischer wrote. “And Ben Simmons is on that list of potential targets in addition to Russell Westbrook.”

For Westbrook, he would be a solid addition to the Kings’ bench due to his scoring and playmaking abilities.

Of course, the former NBA MVP revitalized his career last season with the Denver Nuggets where he proved that he can still play a large role on a contending team, which could translate to Sacramento.

If the Kings pass on Westbrook, Simmons is another solid option that would not only help their point guard situation, but also address their lack of defensive wings since he can also play both forward positions.

Despite this, Simmons has struggled over the last handful of seasons, mainly due to injuries, but either way, expect the Kings to make another move to bolster their point guard depth this summer.
