Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane believes he can can better the Bundesliga scoring record of 41 goals in a season but is aware that he still has a long way to go.

England captain Kane has 18 goals from the first 14 matches and has 20 matches left to crack the mark former Munich player Robert Lewandowski set in the 2020-21 season.

"Yes, I think it is possible, especially with the start I have had," Kane told Sky TV in an interview published on Wednesday.

Kane, 32, said he likes chasing records but is aware that it is still "a long way" to go and he will need consistency over many months to challenge Lewandowski whose record he named outstanding.

"Come March time we will see if it is really possible," he said.

Kane was Bundesliga top scorer in his first two Bayern seasons with 36 and 26 goals respectively.

In late September he became the fastest player to reach 100 goals for a club in Europe's top five leagues, in 104 matches since his 2023 move from Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane has 114 goals from 120 Bayern appearances across all competitions heading into their last game of the year, a Bundesliga date at Heidenheim on Sunday.

In the interview, Kane also welcomed the nearing comeback of playmaker Jamal Musiala who has been sidelined since July with a leg fracture and dislocated ankle.

Musiala has returned to parts of team training and should get his first minutes in January. Kane said he considered Musiala the best player in the team before the injury.

Kane said he was as happy that full back Alphonso Davies is playing again after a severe knee injury, saying it felt like having two valuable new signings in Davies and Musiala.
