The Red Sox need help at first base.
The Boston Red Sox recently traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. However, that coincided with their best stretch of play in 2025.
The team is now 54-48 and in possession of the final American League Wild Card spot. They also are still within striking distance in the AL East.
However, the team still has needs to address. The trade deadline is fast approaching, and Boston needs help at first base, as Triston Casas is out for the season with a knee injury.
Russell Dorsey of Yahoo Sports listed Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor as a trade candidate and had the Red Sox as a possible landing spot.
"Josh Naylor has been one of the more underrated first baseman in baseball for a while, but in his first season in the desert, he has been able to shine," Dorsey wrote.
"If Arizona decides to sell, moving Naylor, who is also a free agent at the end of the season, feels like the right decision."

Naylor is hitting .293/.362/.452 with 11 home runs, 58 RBI, 11 stolen bases and an .814 OPS this season. He is on an expiring contract, so he'll be an attractive trade piece if Arizona choses to sell.
The Diamondbacks have not decided what path they'll take, but the Red Sox are clear buyers as the deadline approaches. Naylor brings power from the left side of the plate and can fill the void at first base for the Red Sox.
Naylor is also a former All-Star. With Devers gone, Boston could use another left-handed bat, and Naylor certainly checks a lot of boxes. Fenway Park is also very hitter friendly, so he could take advantage of a short right field wall.
The 28-year-old is only making $10.9 million this year, so he is an affordable asset. The Red Sox shouldn't have to give up too much.
We'll see where they land in their search of a first baseman.
