Mariners' trade plans can 'help them evolve from Bulbasaur to Venusaur'

Well, this is quite the analogy.

ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan must be playing Pokemon.

Because to sum up the Seattle Mariners' trade deadline plans, he called on a couple of the monsters from the popular video game series.

Here's what Passan wrote on Wednesday:

"Seattle's pitching alone will make the team good. Another bat or two on top of that can help them evolve from Bulbasaur to Venusaur."

For the uninitiated, that's essentially saying the Mariners will power-up by adding a bat or two.

"(Josh) Naylor makes sense at first," Passan writes. "Eugenio Suárez makes sense at third. Both together would be a home run. Willi Castro and Ryan O'Hearn are solid backup plans."

The Mariners are getting a historic season from Cal Raleigh and a superb season from their rotation. It's not the time to sit still.

It's time for Seattle to make some phone calls, pull off some trades and become the most evolved version of themselves they can be.
