Florida State football and track standout Micahi Danzy hosted a youth speed camp for local athletes in Tallahassee on Saturday morning.
Micahi Danzy wanted to give back to the Tallahassee community.
The Florida State football and track star, and Tallahassee native, returned to Florida High, his former high school, to host a free youth speed camp for local athletes.
Flanked by his former high school football coach Jarrod Hickman and track coach Mike Acree alongside Tyrone McGriff, Wendel Jones, Leroy Peter and Shannon Baker, Danzy welcomed over 100 kids to the track for a two-hour camp.
Danzy and some of his FSU track teammates assisted kids through agility drills, hurdle jumps and other track workout activities designed to help kids grow in confidence and speed.
"It definitely means a lot. Growing up, I was looking up to Terrion Arnold, my big brother, Kevin Sawyer," Danzy said. "It definitely means a lot now I'm in that role."
A standout at Florida High, Danzy said the camp was an opportunity for him to inspire the next generation of athletes coming through the Tallahassee area.
Danzy has gone from state champion to competing for a national title on the track in his first season with the Seminoles, and he hopes his story can motivate athletes at the camp to chase the same thing.
"The sky is the limit," Danzy said on what he told the camp attendants," Don't ever doubt yourself, just go out there and enjoy what you do."
While he ultimately got injured before the national championships, Danzy blazed into the record books with the Seminoles in his freshman season. He ran an FSU, ACC and ACC championship meet record time of 44.38 in the 400-meter to win the conference championship this season for the Seminoles.
He said he is recovering well from his injury and credited his doctors for helping him get cleared for competition ahead of the fall and start of football season.
As he continues to prepare for his sophmore season with FSU, Danzy said he was very thankful to be in a postion to compete at the highest level and give back to the community that embraced him.
"I have no words for this situation, I can thank God for this," Danzy said. "God put me in this situation, I just want to give back to the kids."
