Chelsea ready to move on from £30m signing after just one year – but no bids yet

Chelsea’s useful spare part may now be obsolete

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is in a slightly strange position at Chelsea right now. On the one hand he’s carved himself out a role as a backup midfielder/attacker who Enzo Maresca likes to use late in games. That trend continued even through the Club World Cup, with new rivals in the squad.

But long term it’s hard to see the former Leicester man playing more than he did last season – it feels like he’s much more likely to play less, in fact. That’s why the door is open to a move away, as it was in January. Chelsea writer Matt Law confirmed recently that the Blues would sell KDH at the right price:

“If Chelsea got what they consider a good bid for Dewsbury-Hall, they would sell,” Law said when he featured on the London Is Blue Podcast this week.

“[But] at the moment I haven’t heard of a bid coming in for him.”

Dewsbury-Hall likely to leave if right offer comes in

Dewsbury-Hall took advantage of a lack of depth in midfield last season, but with Romeo Lavia back fit plus Dario Essugo and Andrey Santos having joined the group, we see that avenue for minutes drying up significantly.

KDH was also used to replace Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez later in games, but again, there are new attacking signings which will make that path more difficult too.

We’re not sure how much Chelsea would accept for the former Leicester man, but we’d imagine if they can come close to matching the £30m they paid for him they would take it. They got a good, successful season out of him and now can try to upgrade.
