Nuggets could reunite with former MVP, playoff hero to solve backup point guard problem

Denver still has a key spot to fill.

The Denver Nuggets have been busy this offseason, and they could still make another big move.

Last season, the Nuggets suffered their second straight loss in Game 7 of the second round. This time, it was at the hands of the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder.

Seeing that the Thunder should only get better, the Nuggets needed to make some moves to ensure they could compete with the 68-win juggernaut moving forward. Over the offseason, the Nuggets have made some of the most widely praised moves in the league, including a trade that brought Cam Johnson to Denver.

However, one of their biggest moves might still be in the future. While the Nuggets have signed Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. to give the team some help on the wing, they could still use a true backup point guard, which is where Russell Westbrook comes in.

As suggested by Athlon Sports’ Nathaniel Holloway, the Nuggets could bring in the former MVP to extend his Denver tenure after a successful season. Including a go-ahead three in Game 1 against the LA Clippers, Westbrook had some massive moments in the postseason.

Entering his 18th NBA season, Westbrook is still searching for his first NBA championship, which led him to Denver last offseason. Assuming Nikola Jokic’s seal of approval is still intact, it would make sense for Westbrook to re-sign with Denver, even after all of its moves.

After averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists last season, it’s clear that Westbrook still has plenty left in the tank, and he already has chemistry with the Nuggets’ top players.
