Boston is looking to deal its recently acquired guard.
The Boston Celtics have made some massive changes this offseason, and they might not be done.
After sending out Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis in a series of moves to help their financial situation, the Celtics are in a tricky position entering next season. With Jayson Tatum set to miss the entire year with a torn Achilles, the Celtics aren’t contending for a title but would still like to make the playoffs with Jaylen Brown and Derrick White leading the way.
For now, the Celtics also have a scoring punch in the backcourt from Anfernee Simons, who they acquired in the Holiday trade with Portland. However, many reports since Simons’ arrival have indicated that Boston might be parting with the guard before he ever plays a game with the franchise.
Recently, Celtics Blog’s Jason Issenberg suggested some potential Simons trades. Among those is a deal that would send Simons to Memphis for Brandon Clarke, Vince Williams Jr. and Jon Konchar.
While that deal gives the Celtics some potential options on the wing in Williams and Konchar, it also gives the Celtics another big man to join their underwhelming rotation. Meanwhile, selling Memphis on the deal would likely be easy, considering the Grizzlies recently moved Desmond Bane and could use another scorer.
Overall, the Celtics have plenty of options when it comes to a Simons trade, but a deal that provides Boston with depth, including a reliable big man, could be a no-brainer. Already in an offseason of change, the looming Simons deal will only add to the madness.
