Bucks GM Jon Horst offers promising contract update on fan-favorite sharpshooter

“Dairy Bird” could be in line for a significant raise after a breakout season.

AJ Green Bucks

It appears as though the Milwaukee Bucks are settling down after a busy start to the offseason, but the organization is now expected to start discussing an extension with fan-favorite guard AJ Green.

Green is on an expiring $2.3 million deal. Now, the Bucks and the sharpshooter will look to work out an extension. Since arriving in Milwaukee after going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, he has made a name for himself around the league.

Green is coming off a career-best year in 2024-25, and Bucks general manager Jon Horst recently discussed both his and the organization’s desire to keep the Northern Iowa product around long term, according to Eric Nehm of The Athletic

“First and foremost, the day that he became officially eligible to have extension conversations, he was the first call I made,” Horst said. “I called him. We didn’t dive deep into negotiations, but I just told him how much we love him, believe in him, and want him here long term.”

Green and the Bucks have ample time to finalize an extension, and it would be surprising to see the team let him enter free agency, as his three-point shooting makes him a valuable asset.

The 25-year-old shooting guard has been deadly from the perimeter since entering the league, shooting 42.1 percent from beyond the arc over his three-year career.

Over 73 regular-season appearances last season, he averaged 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.1 three-pointers and 1.5 assists while shooting 42.7 percent from downtown in 22.7 minutes per game — all of which marked career highs.
