For the first time in his NBA career, Damian Lillard is an unrestricted free agent. The Milwaukee Bucks waived and stretched Lillard this offseason, which allowed him to choose his next team while he will be paid over $20 million annually for the next five years.
Lillard likely won't play next season as he is currently rehabbing a ruptured Achilles tendon he suffered during the playoffs. Any team that signs him understands that he likely won't make his debut until next season.
Among the teams that could make sense as a Lillard destination at this stage of his career are the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are among the oldest teams in the league, but they still have three proven playoff veterans on the roster, including Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.
The Warriors are apparently very much in the Lillard sweepstakes. ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel reported that while the Boston Celtics are the favorites for Lillard on Tuesday, he included the Warriors among his potential destinations.
"No timetable for a decision," Siegel wrote. "Nothing has changed here. Boston remains the team I would say is #1 for Dame, followed by Warriors, Heat, Timberwolves in no particular order. So many teams have interest in him, and I am sure Dame wouldn't mind a (Portland) reunion at some point."

During his time with the Trail Blazers, Lillard played against the Warriors three times in the playoffs: in 2016, 2017, and 2019. In those three series combined, Lillard and the Trail Blazers won exactly one game.
