The union between Bradley Beal and the Phoenix Suns is set to be no more. The former All-Star will move on to his next team. Shams Charania revealed on Twitter/X that Beal is joining the Los Angeles Clippers.
Charania wrote, "Three-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal has agreed to a contract buyout with the Phoenix Suns and plans to join the Los Angeles Clippers on a two-year, $11 million deal with a player option after clearing waivers, Mark Bartelstein of [Priority Sports] told ESPN."
Charania added, "This now gives the Suns increased team-building flexibility by taking them out of the first and second aprons, providing access to more tradeable draft picks in the future, and opening up part of the mid-level exception to utilize."
With Phoenix no longer on the hook, at the full-scale value at least, for the Beal contract, this now raises an important question for the rest of the NBA. Who now holds the worst deal in the NBA?
The Philadelphia 76ers will quickly want to go into hiding after handing Paul George a four-year, $211.6 million deal last offseason. The first year of that contract has passed, but the remaining three seasons, which are all valued over $50 million, look brutal.
At the very least, the 76ers can find comfort in George not holding a no-trade clause or anything of the sort. Perhaps they can move off that contract if/when the time comes.
Two Sacramento Kings stars stick out in this instance too. Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis both look like overpays on their current deals. However, it is tough to think they are much worse than the aforementioned George deal.
Three more years of Jerami Grant's max deal make him a prime contender for this unwanted distinction as well. The Portland Trail Blazers forward may be the closest competition to George.
Ultimately, one thing is clear from this: the Suns are no longer leading the conversation. However, they will be paying for it for a few more seasons.
