Lakers interested in Celtics fan favorite despite Deandre Ayton decision

The Lakers are still looking for more.

Deandre Ayton

The Los Angeles Lakers are typically linked to nearly every player in the NBA, and that's been the case once again this offseason.

According to a recent report from Marc J. Spears on SportsCenter, the Lakers are now interested in former Boston Celtics big man Al Horford.

There were reports earlier in the offseason that the Lakers were interested in Horford, but after they signed Deandre Ayton and re-signed Jaxson Hayes, it remained uncertain what the team's plans were.

"Golden State expected him to sign last week, but he didn't. Lakers, Milwaukee, Atlanta, I believe, are also interested in the nearly 40-year-old guy, who always has retirement on the table. He's not in any hurry, he's got a sixth kid coming on the way, he lives in Atlanta and Boston in the offseason,” he noted.

The Lakers are a decent team on paper, but suggesting that they're contenders in the Western Conference would be unfair.

It's also unfair to suggest that Horford would put them over the top, as he's likely a sixth or seventh man on a contending team.

He was a starter in 42 of 60 games last season.

The Lakers could utilize him in a bench role and hope he hits open shots, given that Luka Doncic and LeBron James will provide him with open looks. It also wouldn't be surprising to see Horford start.

However, the way Boston ran its offense was one of the best in the league, and it'd be tough for the Lakers to replicate that for many reasons.
