The New York Knicks are coming off their best run in decades after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years, and they’re determined to keep building on that momentum. With newly hired head coach Mike Brown now at the helm, the Knicks have made it clear they’re serious about taking the next step toward a championship in the 2025-26 season.

New York has already made a few strategic offseason moves to improve its roster, adding veteran pieces like Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele. But with limited cap space left, the front office is now focused on using a veteran’s minimum deal to add one more experienced guard or playmaker.

According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks have “continued to touch base with Ben Simmons during the free agency period.”

While Simmons appears to be a concrete target, Begley noted that the team may have also explored options with other veterans, including Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul — though interest in those two is more speculative for now.

Simmons, a former No. 1 overall pick and three-time All-Star, spent last season with both the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers, where he averaged 5.6 assists, 5.0 points and 4.7 rebounds in 51 games.

Known for his defensive versatility and playmaking, he’d also reunite with former Nets teammate Mikal Bridges if he joins the Knicks. Adding Simmons would also give New York another proven ball-handler in the rotation.

As for Westbrook and Paul, both future Hall of Famers remain on the market and could offer the Knicks valuable leadership, playoff experience, and a hunger for an elusive championship ring — perhaps the only major accolade missing from their decorated careers. Either signing would potentially deepen the Knicks’ backcourt and add some level of playoff experience to the roster.
