Watch: NBA champion Shai Gilgeous-Alexander begins 2025 offseason workouts.
Less than a month after capturing an NBA championship, it's back to work for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Oklahoma City Thunder's quest to be a rare repeat winner starts and stops with the reigning MVP and NBA Finals MVP.
Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as one of the NBA's best players over the last four years. Four consecutive 30-plus point campaigns will do that. Throw in three All-NBA honors and an MVP trophy, and the 27-year-old has quickly ascended into all-time territory.
The drive-heavy scorer has already shifted to offseason workout mode. The Thunder will have a shorter break than most because their season ended in late June, but you'll take that trade-off if it means a ring. The 2025-26 season is only three months away and OKC will have its biggest target on its back.
Gilgeous-Alexander has had a busy July already. He opened the month by signing a supermax extension that'll keep him in OKC through the 2030-31 season. Two weeks later, he's back to work. You've reached the throne. Now it's about keeping your place there.
To prepare, Gilgeous-Alexander has worked out with NBA private trainer Nem Ilic. The duo has collaborated over the years during the sizzling summer months. As the saying goes, don't fix what's not broken. Ilic posted on social media a small part of the MVP's workout routine. It's a lot of lower-body activities.
You always hear about Gilgeous-Alexander's legendary work ethic. These are just glimpses into that. He's had an unconventional path to superstardom, from a nice lottery pick to an MVP winner. How he wins the summer months when the NBA is off is how he forged this journey.
