Angel Reese did not back down.

Angel Reese had a tough matchup on Monday as the Chicago Sky hosted the Minnesota Lynx at Wintrust Arena. Reese went toe-to-toe against one of the top players in the WNBA today, Napheesa Collier, who is also currently the frontrunner for the Most Valuable Player title.

Reese did not back down against the reigning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, though. The Sky star dropped a team-high 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting, to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists and a block in 37 minutes of action. Reese logged her ninth straight double-double, too, against elite competition, no less.

Collier, however, outshone her younger counterpart in this one. The Lynx star scored a game-high 29 points on 7-of-14 from the field and 11-of-11 from the charity stripe. Collier also registered three rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block, leading Minnesota to a 91-78 victory.

Reese, though, had nothing but high praise for Collier after the game.

"Phee’s a great player, everybody knows that,” Reese said of Collier, via Moreau Sports Prod Co. on X. “She's also Defensive Player of the Year too…For me to be able to matchup against her…I take it personal…she’s one of the best and to be the best, you have to guard the best...

"Also being able to have a sister that wants me to get better as well."

Reese and Collier had the opportunity to connect during the offseason at Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 league that Collier founded alongside Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty. The Lynx star also drafted Reese as part of her squad in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis on July 19.

Collier herself had some kind words for Reese, who she believes is “part of the future of the league.”

Either way, it was Collier and the Lynx who emerged victorious in the battle. Based on her comments here, Reese will likely take this to heart as she looks forward to the next opportunity to battle Collier on the court.
