Angel Reese Has Zero Excuses After Stumbling in Her 'New Role'

Angel Reese takes full responsibility.

Angel Reese kept her foot on the gas on Monday as the Chicago Sky hosted the Minnesota Lynx at Wintrust Arena. The two-time All-Star secured her ninth straight double-double with a team-high 22 points on an efficient 9-of-14 shooting clip, 10 rebounds, three assists and a block in 37 minutes of play.

It still wasn’t enough for the Sky, who fell to 7-14 on the season after suffering a 91-78 defeat against the league-best Lynx. Chicago pulled off a massive upset against Minnesota on Saturday, but Napheesa Collier and Co. made sure to make things right in their rematch on Monday night.

Perhaps the biggest downside of Reese’s strong outing is the fact that she turned the ball over five times against the Lynx. Reese has been tasked with more playmaking duties of late, especially after starting point guard Courtney Vandersloot suffered a season-ending ACL injury. The 23-year-old, however, took full responsibility for her errors in the loss.

"This is a new role for me,” Reese said on being a point-forward, via Moreau Sports Prod Co. on X. “ …That’s no excuse. I just have to watch film and be better…I just gotta get the ball to where it needs to get to faster…I know we’re making the right read…we’ll continue to get better."

Since the Sky have ruled Vandersloot out for the rest of the season, it looks like Angel Reese will continue operating in the point-forward role under head coach Tyler Marsh. Despite her shortcomings, Reese clearly isn't shying away from the challenge at all.
