San Francisco adds a good pedigree.
Does the name Rod Barajas ring a bell?
Well, the San Francisco Giants just drafted his son.
Barajas was a 14-year veteran of Major League Baseball, a sturdy catcher with a little pop.
His son was an 11th-round pick by the Giants on Monday. His name: Rod Barajas Jr.
He began his college career at Cal State-Northridge, but he most recently played at the junior college level for Saddleback College.
This spring, Barajas Jr. batted .329 with five home runs for Saddleback. Like his father, he's a catcher.
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Barajas Jr. will have a length journey from JuCo to potentially following his dad's footsteps and making the major leagues. Catcher is the position that often takes the most time at each minor league level to continue learning the nuances of the position.
But at least Barajas Jr. has a strong role model to follow. The Giants will hope that helps pave a good path.
