Phoenix Mercury's forward DeWanna Bonner helped the team win their second straight game since the acquisition. Bonner started her WNBA career with the Mercury in 2009 when she was selected with the No. 5 pick in the first round. This season, she started with the Indiana Fever but was eventually released at her request.
Reunited with the Mercury and her fiancé, Alysssa Thomas, Bonner is back in action, helping the team in their quest to contend for a championship. On Monday, the veteran star came off the bench and had 22 points and 11 rebounds to secure a 78-77 win over the Golden State Valkyries.
With her double-double performance, Bonner made history.
Following the contest, the six-time All-Star recorded her 60th regular-season double-double of her career. Bonner proved that she's still productive, even though she's the second-oldest player in the WNBA.
After the game, Bonner talked about the team's experience playing a significant factor to the victory.
“I guess that was experience,” Bonner said. “But the team, the coaching staff, the supporting cast, has done a great job catching me up to speed.
“Definitely experience, definitely just credit to [the] Phoenix organization, everybody catching me up really quick. Just got thrown in the fire but it’s been great.”
Phoenix Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts and DeWanna Bonner said experience made the difference in the Mercury’s win over the Valkyries.

During her first 11 seasons with the Mercury, Bonner experienced what it was like to win a championship. She won twice, once in her rookie year and 2014.
This season, the Mercury organization is determined to contend for a title with their new core of Thomas, Satou Sabally and Kahleah Copper.
