Over the past few months, rumors have suggested that the Los Angeles Dodgers are interested in trading for Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals. 

The Cardinals are in a better position than they were a few months ago heading into the season, as they now look for an opportunity to make the postseason. 

However, the reality is that if they had an opportunity to trade someone like Arenado to the Dodgers, and Los Angeles were willing to pay the rest of his deal, it's almost all but certain that they’d move on from him.

Despite that, according to a recent report from Jim Bowden of The Athletic, it remains unlikely that the Dodgers would do so. He added that Arenado isn't precisely what Los Angeles is looking for, and that the front office and coaching staff love what Max Muncy has done after a slow start. 

"The Dodgers say no because they’re not taking on Arenado’s contract at this point in his career and they’re happy with Max Muncy, who is on the injured list but expected to return from his bone bruise well before the end of the regular season,” he wrote.

Muncy is dealing with a tough injury after being taken out by a slide during Clayton Kershaw's 3,000 strikeout game, but he's expected to return sometime over the next two months. 

If he comes back and continues to swing the bat at the level he did before, there wouldn't be much of a reason to explore an Arenado trade.

A firm decision made on Mucy is a promising sign for the Dodgers as they head into the trade deadline.
