Yankees draft son of All-Star, Gold Glove infielder

New York got a good pedigree.

With their final pick of the 2025 MLB Draft, the New York Yankees picked a baseball pedigree.

They drafted Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek, a shortstop out of USC.

Bryce's father, Mark Grudzielanek, played 15 years in Major League Baseball and both made an All-Star team and won a Gold Glove.

His mother, Danielle Martin, played softball at UCLA. The genes are certainly strong.

Martin-Grudzielanek began his college career at UCLA but didn't play a game there before transferring to USC.

In his three seasons at USC, Martin-Grudzielanek batted .296 with a .446 slugging percentage.

He hit eight home runs as a senior, a career best. He also stole a career-high nine bases.

At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Martin-Grudzielanek certainly looks the part of a ballplayer.

He struck out at maybe too high a clip in college, but he also showed enough success at the plate to believe in his hands and think maybe he can square some more baseballs up as he matures.

It's always hard to bet against such a good pedigree as the one that Martin-Grudzielanek has. The Yankees are believers.
