Eight sluggers will hit tons of dingers as they compete for a nice cash prize
The Home Run Derby has become the flagship event of MLB's All-Star week.
Ever since the league changed the format of the competition in 2015 to have timed rounds, baseballs have been soaring over the fence at an incredible pace. Last year's winner, Teoscar Hernandez, hit 49 home runs in total, and someone is sure to approach that number in 2025.
Eight sluggers will compete at Truist Park in Atlanta on Monday night for the right to be crowned Home Run Derby champion, and the cash that goes along with it. Matt Olson, Cal Raleigh, Oneil Cruz, and more will look to demolish some baseballs and walk away with $1 million.

Home Run Derby prize money
- Champion: $1 million
- Runner-up: $750,000
The prize pool for the Home Run Derby is $2.5 million. The winner takes home $1 million, the runner up receives $750,000, and the rest of the money is split between the remaining participants.
There have been examples in the past of Home Run Derby winners earning more than their yearly salaries, especially for younger players who make near the league minimum. When Pete Alonso won in 2019 and 2021, he received checks worth well above what he made for 162 games.
If being crowned Home Run Derby champion wasn't enough motivation, the money involved provides a little more encouragement for players to swing for the fences.
