Michael Porter Jr. is changing addresses in the NBA after the Denver Nuggets traded him to the Brooklyn Nets along with an unprotected first-round pick in 2032 for Cameron Johnson.

This is uncharted territory for the former Missouri Tigers star, as he has never been in a trade before nor played for another team besides the Nuggets.

In addition, he goes from a legitimate NBA championship contender to a team that's still searching for its identity amid a rebuild.

Moreover, Porter acknowledged that he had to adapt to life in The City That Never Sleeps, especially for someone who grew up in an environment that's not as busy.

“I always said New York was my least favorite NBA city,” Porter said about the Big Apple, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “Just because I grew up in the Midwest, where there’s so much space and no traffic. So it’ll be an adjustment. But I think it’ll end up being an amazing place for me.”

On the court, Porter will have to get used to the absence of Nikola Jokic on the floor. Although the Nets have intriguing talents, there's no one on the roster who comes close to the caliber of the Serbian superstar big man. At the same time, Porter can expect a bigger role with lesser pressure on his shoulders with Brooklyn, which won just 26 games in the 2024-25 NBA regular season.

A first-round pick by the Nuggets in 2018, Porter averaged 18.2 points on a 59.6 effective field goal percentage, 7.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists through 77 games last season for Denver.
