Flagg stays humble after strong Summer League showing.
The Dallas Mavericks and Cooper Flagg played their second Summer League game Saturday, with the No. 1 overall pick showcasing his offensive firepower against No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper and the San Antonio Spurs.
Flagg finished with 31 points (10-21 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 8-13 FT), four rebounds and one assist across 31 minutes in Saturday’s 76-69 Summer League loss to the Spurs, leading all players in scoring and playing time.
Despite his impressive scoring numbers, the Duke standout offered some self-criticism. Flagg joked that his mom, Kelly Flagg — who played Division I basketball at the University of Maine — wouldn’t be thrilled about his performance from the charity stripe, according to Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News.
“I still missed a bunch of free throws,” Flagg said. “I know my mom probably wasn’t very happy with that.”
Cooper Flagg said he felt more comfortable in today’s game against the Spurs. He finished with 31 points and four rebounds (10-21 FG; 8-13 FT).

Still, the 18-year-old bounced back from his shooting struggles during his Summer League debut in Thursday’s 87-85 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, when he posted 10 points (5-21 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 0-1 FT), six rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block in 32 minutes.
Flagg is coming off a historic 2024-25 campaign in his lone season at Duke, where he became just the fourth freshman in NCAA men’s history to win the Naismith College Player of the Year award.
With all the tools to become a two-way superstar in the NBA, Flagg will step into an ideal situation to contribute on a star-studded Mavericks roster that is already built to compete.
