Indiana Fever leader faces heat for comments, deletes X account

Facing pressure, she deleted before Friday's game.

Kelly Krauskopf

Just a few hours before the Indiana Fever tipped off against the Atlanta Dream on Friday, team president Kelly Krauskopf quietly took down her personal X account following a barrage of online backlash.

Earlier in the day, a video clip of Krauskopf began making the rounds on social media. In it, she shared her long-term vision for the franchise, saying she wanted the Fever to evolve into a brand that could thrive even beyond star rookie Caitlin Clark's presence. She pointed to Apple as the kind of lasting identity she hopes to build.

While the ambition may have sounded forward-thinking in a corporate setting, many fans were not impressed. With the team hovering just below .500, critics questioned whether branding should be a focus when wins remain inconsistent. The idea that the organization’s identity should stretch beyond Clark, who is signed through 2027, struck a nerve with some Fever supporters.

The online reaction was quick. By Friday afternoon, Krauskopf’s account had disappeared.

The start of Caitlin Clark to Indiana

Krauskopf is no stranger to big moments in basketball history. She first led the Fever from 2000 to 2018, sending them to 13 trips to the playoffs, three times to the WNBA Finals, and the league title in 2012. She later broke barriers in the NBA by becoming the first woman to hold an executive role in basketball operations with the Indiana Pacers.

Her return to the Fever in late 2024 was part of a major reset, one that also brought in coach Stephanie White and GM Amber Cox. The franchise made massive changes on and off the court in hopes of building a contender around Clark after her breakout rookie campaign.

While Krauskopf's intention may have been to express long-term goals for the team, the timing and framing sparked a wave of concern among fans who want to see immediate focus on Clark’s impact and the current roster.

As the team moves forward, the Fever front office will have to balance huge aspirations with the reality of the public eye and the pressure of results in the here and now.

The Fever went on to beat the Dream 99-82. Kelsey Mitchell was the leading scorer for Indiana, with 25.

The Fever are home Sunday against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.
