The Milwaukee Bucks could use another point guard, and a report says Cole Anthony will be signed once he clears waivers after buyout with Grizzlies.
It appears the Milwaukee Bucks are solidifying their plans at point guard.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported July 12 that guard Cole Anthony planned to sign with the Bucks after he cleared waivers, shortly after he'd agreed to a contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies. The 25-year-old has played five NBA seasons with the Orlando Magic but was dealt to Memphis in the exchange that sent Desmond Bane to Orlando this offseason.
The 6-foot-2 Anthony, selected No. 15 in the 2020 NBA Draft, has been a reliable option in both scoring and distributing off the bench, particularly over the past three seasons when he moved into a reserve role. In his career, he's averaged 12.5 points and 3.8 assists per game over 24.8 minutes, along with 4.3 rebounds while shooting 34.5% from 3-point range. Last year with the Magic, he averaged 18.4 minutes, 9.4 points and 2.9 assists, with a 35.3% mark from three.
He's also an excellent free-throw shooter, averaging 84.7% for his career.
The Bucks were thin at point guard, with Kevin Porter the likely starter and promising Ryan Rollins signing a three-year deal July 8.
Cole Anthony's father, Greg Anthony, played 11 seasons in the NBA and is primarily known for his time with the New York Knicks, though he played part of his final season with the Bucks in 2001-02. Greg joined Cole on the court for a segment of the 2022 NBA slam dunk competition during all-star weekend.
Possible Milwaukee Bucks roster
The Bucks' likely 15-man roster took even greater shape with the reported addition of Cole Anthony.
- Point guards — Kevin Porter Jr., Ryan Rollins, Cole Anthony
- Shooting guards — Gary Trent Jr., AJ Green, Gary Harris
- Wings— Kyle Kuzma, Taurean Prince, Andre Jackson Jr.
- Forwards — Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis, Tyler Smith, Bogoljub Marković*
- Centers — Myles Turner, Jericho Sims
- Likely two-way contracts — Mark Sears, Pete Nance, Jamaree Bouyea
* Could remain in Serbia and not be rostered by the Bucks in 2025-26.
