The Indiana Fever were back on top after defeating the Atlanta Dream 99-82, finding immense success against one of the best teams in the league.
Indiana defeated the Dream after losing two straight games, falling to the Los Angeles Sparks and the Golden State Valkyries.
After their matchup against the Dream, head coach Stephanie White spoke with the media, where she discussed the current state of Caitlin Clark.
Clark had been out of the lineup for five games before returning against the Valkyries. The Fever guard was dealing with a groin injury that kept her sidelined for the second time this season.
As she gets back into the flow of the game, Clark has struggled to find consistency in the shooting realm. She finished the win over the Dream shooting 29.4% from the field and 14.3% from three-point range.
Despite finishing the game with 12 points and inefficient shooting splits, Stephanie White isn't worried.
"I know it doesn’t mean anything but I’m not worried about Caitlin’s shot," White said. "I’m not worried about Caitlin’s shot. She’s recovering from an injury. She plays heavy hard minutes. Every defensive assignment, every defensive scout, she’s the top of the scouting report."
White spoke on the adjustments that need to be made, especially with Clark returning to the lineup after an injury.
"Her shot quality that she’s been getting has not been great," White said. "We’re just so used to seeing her make tough shots and to be able to do that while she’s recovering from injury is going to be more difficult. It’s part of the reason why we want to try to make her life easier and get some easier looks. It’s going to continue to be hard because every defensive game plan is to not allow those. For her to stay patient. I thought she did a really good job of attacking the rim. Not just settling for tough long jumpers. She always does a good job at finding her teammates and we just have to help her navigate her own frustration."
Throughout her second season in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark has averaged 16.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game.
While she's struggled as of late, Stephanie White explained that she's been playing at a high level for much of the season and needs to give herself grace during a transformative year in her career.
"She’s a perfectionist as most elite players are and she needs to be able to give herself grace in those moments. But every shot she shoots looks like it’s going in to me.”
