Nobody ever accused Sophie Cunningham of being quiet. And on Friday night, she didn’t just talk, she delivered.
The Indiana Fever bench came alive in their 99-82 win over the Atlanta Dream, and Cunningham led the charge with her best performance in a Fever jersey. The 28-year-old dropped 16 points, grabbed 10 boards, and drilled four triples, announcing loud and clear that she’s found her rhythm in Indiana.
“I’ve always been kind of a natural leader,” Cunningham said in a video the Fever posted after the win. “I bring the energy, I bring the feistiness, I’m a little bit sassy.” She’s not kidding. The 6-foot-1 guard was everywhere on the court, fighting for rebounds, hitting big shots, and throwing herself into every play like the game was personal.

Her double-double was the first of the season, and her highest-scoring game since joining the Fever in the offseason. She even tossed in a block and an assist for good measure.
After the game, she spoke candidly about what’s clicking with this squad. “I really do think this is a really unique and special team,” Cunningham told reporters. “In the locker room, we really do love each other. We love spending time together.”
She didn’t sugarcoat the grind either. “Our practices, I’m not going to lie, are long. And sometimes we have to hold hands and be like, hey, we’re going to get through it.”
But there’s something different in Indiana for her. “This is a team that I have never felt like this in the W. I’ve been in it for seven years,” she said. “We’re at our best when we’re having fun.”
The Fever now shift focus to Sunday’s clash against the Dallas Wings. Expect Sophie to bring the sass.
