The Denver Nuggets have been making changes even before the start of the offseason. Many were shocked when the Nuggets announced that they were firing head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth, despite having a relatively good season to that point. Those close to the situation, though, claimed it was a long time coming, as the coaching staff and front office never quite saw eye-to-eye.
Even with David Adelman serving as the interim, the Nuggets were still competitive and took the opening-round series of the NBA Playoffs against the Los Angeles Clippers. While they ultimately fell in the next round to the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder, the Nuggets pushed them to seven games, proving they were just a few moves away from contending for a title.

It came as no surprise to see Nikola Jokic attempt to put his team on his back in both series. The Nuggets took the first game of the series behind Jokic's masterful performance of 42 points and 22 rebounds. Unfortunately, the Nuggets' Jokic wore down after they went to a seventh game for the second series in a row.
According to a recent report from Denver Nuggets beat writer Bennett Durando for the Denver Post, Jokic provided an update regarding his contract.
"Nikola Jokic has informed Nuggets he won't sign a contract extension this offseason, per Durando. Jokic can earn approximately $80M more by waiting until 2026 offseason to sign extension."

Jokic can earn approximately $80M more by waiting until 2026 offseason to sign extension.
This shouldn't come as much of a shock, as the timing of signing extensions is often the difference of millions of dollars. Hearing that Jokic wants to wait so he can earn more down the road is something we've seen from plenty of stars.
The Nuggets have done an excellent job this offseason putting pieces around him to compete next season. They sent Michael Porter Jr. to the Brooklyn Nets for Cam Johnson while also bringing in former fan favorite Bruce Brown.
If the Nuggets can reach the conference finals again, Jokic likely won't look to go elsewhere.
