The Philadelphia Phillies arguably have the best rotation in Major League Baseball, and while the attention is typically on Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola, rightfully so, too, as they're arguably two of the better starters in baseball, what Ranger Suarez has done recently can't be ignored.

Suarez currently has a 1.99 ERA and has thrown in 77.0 innings throughout the year, striking out 73 hitters.

His strikeout stuff isn't among the elite around Major League Baseball, but he's still an arm the Phillies can trust and someone they need moving forward.

However, the left-handed starter is set to hit the free agency market at the end of the season, and some believe that the Phillies will lose him.

That includes Jayson Stark of The Athletic, who recently noted that some believe he’ll sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, whether they were joking or not.

"It's perfect," an anonymous executive said, per Stark. "He'll sign with the Dodgers."

"With Suarez, the often-brilliant but often-injured 29-year-old left-hander for the Phillies, the rest of the sport looked at his incredible first half in 2024 and said: Let's see him do that again," Stark added. "He's sitting on a 1.99 ERA with one start left before the All-Star break. So they've seen it!"

There's a good joke going around that the Dodgers sign everyone, and the executive isn't necessarily that wrong with his assessment.

Frankly, seeing him sign with the Dodgers in the offseason would be unsurprising if that's how things play out.

This also highlights the Phillies' need to be cautious, as they certainly don't want to lose him to one of their biggest rivals in the National League.
