The Detroit Tigers continued their pursuit of Major League Baseball's best record on Wednesday as they took on the Tampa Bay Rays at Comerica Park with a recently healed Reese Olson on the mound as the team's starter.

The Tigers fell behind the Rays 2-0 in the early going as their batting order took its cuts against Rays starter Zack Littell in the batter's box during the bottom of the first inning in Motown.

As the action continued, Comerica Park's scoreboard operator flashed a message across the jumbotron that brought smiles and a round of applause from Detroit Tigers fans as it was announced that fan favorite and clutch Tigers star Zach McKinstry was added to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.

McKinstry, a utility player/second baseman, was picked on Wednesday to replace Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena, who has been fighting a rib injury.

McKinstry will joined Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres, outfielders Javier Baez and Riley Greene, along with starting pitcher Tarik Skubal, who could start next Tuesday's All-Star Game in Atlanta.

Benetti said that McKinstry's selection as a utility man is great news for players across Major League Baseball.

"This is a triumph...(That) Having a player play multiple positions can make you a star," Tigers play-by-play man Jason Benetti said on X.

"He is deserving and he is going to become an All-Star...Because of his selflessness," Benetti said of McKinstry, who has shown he is willing and able to play multiple positions on the baseball field depending on what manager AJ Hinch's team needs on any given day or night at the ballpark.
