Marsh’s message to the Sky.
Chicago Sky Coach Sends Clear Message After 13th Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Chicago Sky’s 81-79 defeat at the hands of the Washington Mystics on Tuesday dealt them their second straight loss and dropped their record to 5-13 on the season.
In a tightly contested affair at EagleBank Arena, the Sky mounted a double-digit comeback in the third quarter behind Angel Reese’s 22 points and 15 rebounds, only to see Shakira Austin’s clutch layup and go‑ahead free throws in the final seconds seal the win for Washington.
Despite Reese’s double‑double, bench production remained a glaring issue, as Chicago’s reserve unit contributed just 11 points compared to 22 from the Mystics’ bench.
After the game, Sky coach Tyler Marsh was candid with his response, saying, "When you work so hard to get in those types of positions (to win), you feel bad for the players."

"When you work so hard to get in those types of positions (to win) you feel bad for the players."
Marsh began his post‑playing career in player development with the NBA G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2012.
Over the next decade, he climbed the coaching ranks, beginning with assistant roles with the Iowa Energy, Bakersfield Jam and Fort Wayne Mad Ants before moving over to the NCAA as an assistant at Alabama A&M.
Following this, he held player development and video coordinator duties with the Toronto Raptors (capturing an NBA title in 2019) and assistant coaching stints with the Indiana Pacers and Las Vegas Aces.
With the Aces, he helped steer the franchise to back‑to‑back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023, as well as the 2022 Commissioner's Cup crown.
On Nov. 3, 2024, Marsh was named the ninth head coach in Chicago Sky history, succeeding Teresa Weatherspoon.
Despite coming into the year with optimism, Chicago has been dealt blow after blow, first losing veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot to a season-ending ACL tear and then watching All-Rookie center Kamilla Cardoso miss multiple games due to international duty.
These factors, among others, have combined to produce a 5-13 start, leaving them firmly outside playoff contention with the All‑Star break looming.
