Catcher Adley Rutschman is in his fourth major-league season as a member of the Baltimore Orioles.

Rutschman was selected first overall in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Oregon State University and made his debut in 2022, making an immediate impact by finishing second in American League Rookie of the Year voting.

Over the past two seasons, Rutschman has firmly established himself as one of the game’s top backstops. He earned All-Star selections in both 2023 and 2024, and in 2023 he finished ninth in MVP voting while also collecting a Silver Slugger Award for his outstanding offensive performance.

In 2025, Rutschman has seen a noticeable dip in production, and he is currently on the 10-day injured list after suffering a left oblique strain on June 21 during batting practice. It marks the first time in his four-year big-league career that he has landed on the injured list.

Ahead of Tuesday’s matchup with the New York Mets, interim manager Tony Mansolino reported that Rutschman took dry swings today, a positive step in his recovery process.

Rutschman’s return could provide a significant boost to Baltimore’s lineup if he can recapture his All-Star form. Through 68 games this season, he is batting .227 with a .691 OPS—both would represent career lows.

The Orioles have struggled in his absence, sitting at 40–49 at the bottom of the AL East. They currently sit 7.5 games back of the final wild-card spot, making Rutschman’s return to full health essential to reignite Baltimore’s playoff hopes this year.
