Sherrone Moore lists top candidates to start at left tackle for Michigan

Who will get the nod?

With just over seven weeks to go until the start of the Michigan Wolverines' football season, the battle for one key starting position continues.

The Wolverines have yet to name a starting left tackle. And with the high likelihood of a true freshman starting at quarterback in Bryce Underwood, this position will be essential to protect his blind side as he learns how to play college football.

Head coach Sherrone Moore spoke with 247Sports' Alejandro Zuniga about the position battle and went into detail about each of the three players still in the hunt.

Those players are junior Evan Link, freshman Andrew Babalola, and sophomore Blake Frazier. Let's look at what Moore had to say about each player.

On Link:

"Right now, Evan Link is a guy that ended off the season really well for us. He played at a really high level, especially those last two games. Ironically, he played on the right side. Didn't play as well as he wanted to. But he played left side his whole high school career. So changing from side to side, people might not know, it's difficult if you haven't done it."

On Babalola:

"True freshman Andrew Babalola, who is a superstar in the making. He's an absolute freak show athletically. One of the smartest kids I've ever met. Him and Grant Newsome might be the two smartest people I've ever met in my life. I don't want to be in a room with them talking or having conversations with them because I can't understand what they're talking about. He's an absolute freak. He's 6'6", 300-something pounds."

On Frazier:

"Blake's an extremely talented young man that we were super high on when we recruited him. And he battled some injuries, finally getting back healthy. When he came in, he was probably about 260; he's probably around the 290-something range. He's a guy that's worked really hard, super athletic, super twitchy, great bend."
