Full-circle moment for Bonner.
DeWanna Bonner Makes Final Decision on WNBA Future After Leaving Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Sitting at 13-6 on the season, second in the Western Conference, the Phoenix Mercury enjoyed a 30-point victory on Monday over the Dallas Wings and have won seven of their last nine games.
Despite being one of the hottest teams in the WNBA, the team was in need of more frontcourt depth and championship experience.
That balance shifted dramatically on Tuesday when the Mercury officially signed DeWanna Bonner, the 37‑year‑old forward who began her illustrious career in Phoenix and had most recently been waived by the Indiana Fever on June 25.
The move reunites Bonner with the organization that drafted her fifth overall in 2009 and with her fiancée, Mercury guard Alyssa Thomas.

A two‑time champion (2009, 2014) with Phoenix, Bonner captured the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year award in each of her first three seasons, an unprecedented feat that underscored her instant impact off the bench.
Over 16 seasons, Bonner has amassed six All‑Star selections and multiple All‑WNBA honors, including First Team in 2015 and Second Team in 2020.
She also earned WNBA All‑Defensive Second Team distinction in 2015 and was named SEC Player of the Year during her final collegiate season at Auburn.
She currently ranks third on the WNBA’s all‑time scoring list with 7,546 points, behind only Diana Taurasi (10,646) and Tina Charles (7,961), as well as third all-time in games (511), fifth in minutes (15,441) and ninth in rebounds (3,101).
By bringing Bonner back to Phoenix, the Mercury add a versatile forward with extensive playoff experience who can slide seamlessly between starter and bench roles.
